Any fan of the White Sox knows the iconic voice that is Ken "Hawk "Harrelson and his famous "Hawkisms" he drops during the games. At the start of the baseball season I decided to develop his "can of corn" call into a real product.
I was able to produce 9 cans. Each can is packaged in its own personalized box and was sent to 9 members of the White Sox organization. The illustration of Harrelson's Whole Kernel Sweet Corn pays homage to the iconic Campbell's Tomato Soup can by Andy Warhol. The can of corn sits inside the box but also attached to the top flap of the box is my business card. My fellow baseball card collectors will appreciate the soft plastic case I used to store the business card.
Ideally this concept would be developed even more, possibly into a full line for Hawk. This could also work as promotional item for White Sox and perhaps even for a collaboration with Green Giant or Del Monte to sponsor a food drive.
8-1-11 Update: I mailed all the cans on Tuesday (7-26), they arrived on Wednesday (7-27), Hawk called me on Thursday (7-28) to thank me and tell me how much he liked and appreciated them. He wants to do a "Can-of-Corn Day" or at least sell them in the souvenir shop. He also mentioned that A.J. saw them and put one in his locker. I have a screen shot of it below.
